We talked a lot about the work of Ansel Adams this week, and his process.
We talked about the different types of landscape photography that Ansel experimented with This project you will be working with an SLR camera and B&W film.
You will be expected to work with the three different landscape techniques noted about and discussed in class.
Channel the work of Ansel Adams and photograph the same landscape in those three different techniques, representational, impressionistic and abstract
Remember you will be working with BW film: there are a few things you should remember when working with BW film and an SLR camera.
1. You can't see your photos, so be intentional in your composition....
Remember your subject placement, depth (foreground, midground & background) and dont waste your photos!
2. Can't change your ISO.
Make sure you have enough light to work with the 400 speed film we gave you.
3. # of exposures.
You only have 24 exposures to photograph your project. BRacket if you are shooting in manual, and really be intentional about what you're shooting. (see #1)
4. Shooting in B&W
You are using Black and White film, so remember that you need to think about Texture, line, shape, shadows, space, balance and everything but COLOR!
5. Exposure Latitude
Your film is not as forgiving as digital. It will not allow you to make mistakes. You are only printing these in the darkroom, not using computer programming to adjust the photos afterwards..... so if you are shooting in manual, be sure that you are using ACCURATE, PROPER exposure!
You should be photographing these images in Manual mode as we discussed in class.
For more infomration on manual exposure: research online, or follow a few of these links.
